SYPNOSIS

London, the world capital of music: Jona, handsome, flamboyant and seemingly carefree. Marc, dark, introverted and troubled. Lifelong friends on a mission: Write original music that touches people but remains true to their hearts.

They pen their first songs and perform at various live music venues. Their talent and potential is undeniable but they soon realise that there is little money to be made with original music. Jona asks Marc to join his cover band to make ends meet but Marc is unwilling to compromise with what he considers as a treason to his art.

When Birgen, Jona’s mother and famous actress comes back from a long movie shoot, Marc is forced out of her apartment where he has been “squatting” with Jona for a while. Their friendship and future as a band is severely put to test when Jona receives an offer from his father Ray, a 70s Rockstar who he hasn’t talked to in years. Ray wants Jona to play guitar in his band for a 6 month tour in the U.S. accompanied with an enticing financial offer.

Jona is torn between the opportunity to launch his musical career and his loyalty to his friend. Dramatic events from their past start to haunt them both: Jona’s little sister drowned in the family swimming pool 20 years ago, who is to blame? Marc behaves awkwardly around Birgen; what is their relationship? Marc’s mother gave up on life and became an alcoholic, why? Questions that could take several seasons to be answered. Characters are bond together, entwined within dark family secrets that will generate constant sources of conflict and doubt.

Jona chooses to stay but will remain torn, especially as his friend’s destructive behaviour and tendency towards addictions rise back to the surface, putting everything in jeopardy. Marc is on a methadone treatment but can’t help his drinking, which could be a deadly mix.

They both move to an artist warehouse in East London which will become their home and creative cocoon. They meet colourful characters including Vincent, a college friend who offers to manage them and finance their ascension to stardom, and Elisa, a bewitching singer/cellist who becomes their muse, developing into a tumultuous love triangle.

They go through the process of recording their debut album, produce a music video, gather a small following of fans, perform their first festivals opening for some big acts, they go on tour, meet well known musicians who inspire them in unlikely ways… They climb, then fall down the ladder of success.

There is fighting, loving, laughing, crying and everything in between.
